It use to be a very nice place to relax with the female waitresses with a friendly smile, now it is sort of a gay bar, where the action just starts at 9:00pm and stops at 12:00. I can’t even have a decent drink for Christ sake.

Hey John, I think I live this bar, if that is for gay maybe good for les either… (just joking).
Gay or les is not important, good music and service that’s cool… 🙂

I went there 3 times within 1 week, it was quite nice for the service and the female manager so pretty;)
The Philiphino band was amazing especially the male singer with tattoo on the right arm. Every time arrive Hochiminh city, here is the place for my team to hang out at night after hard working all day long.

This place is incredible, this is without doubt the BEST live music in ho chi minh with no comparision, the band is incredible talented. ive been around the world, but this is really in the high end if you like hard rock music. A gem in ho chi minh, not that many foreigners found it, and this is in some respect quite good. Friendly people and staff even though youre the only foreigner there. Ive been everywhere in hcmc but this place is the absolute best if you like music, and there is no where that comes close in hcmc thats the honest truth. The band (vietnamese band with fillipino singers) are superb hard rock musicians, and ive heard some of the sickest tweeks on great classics that blow me away. Any one saying something bad about this place dont know anything about music, this place is my NO 1 !

After reading the posts on this site I was pumped to go to this bar and dragged most of our group along with me.. It started off OK, but then had altercation with the barmaid. After buying a bottle of vodka we ordered 6 cans of 7up. paid for 6 got 1.. then spent next hour arguing with staff.. There were 10 of us in our group and the band had just finished.. so was a little disappointed in the attitude and agressive attitude towards us.. Obviously not too many westerners frequent this bar as the communication was a bit difficult at times…
Majorfan, the band was ok for what we saw.. but I am still trying to work out how go go dancers work into a metal act.. Heavy is aint.. no where to dance/mosh/headbang.. when you finally get to real metal gig you will see its all about the music not the glitter and girls..
Ok but not all it was cracked up to be..

    Hi Ho Chi Minh,
We were yesterday night in this bar, with my wife…
The band seem to manage some rocks classics but played 3 songs (and watching TV during!!!????), before to let a DG invade the place with some dance floor “boom boom shitty boom boom” music…
We were 2 lost europeans among gogo girls…and say truth, we were not feeling fine among…
We prefer the “Rock City bar” on Phuket where the bands are exploding the stage by energy!
    Metal up your ears!

For those talking this bar up, you clearly haven’t been to see the ground floor band at Seventeen Saloon six days a week. Now THAT band is up there with the quality found at Rock City Phuket, and I’ve been to both many times so I know what I’m talking about. Also been to Metallic, and only the second-rate traveling Filipino musos play at that one. Barmaid attitude is also pretty poor.

Go if you just need a change of scene, but not until you’ve seen the best at Seventeen.

I have to second the comments about Seventeen Saloon. The current band there is phenomenal. 7 person band with lead guitar, bass guitar, keyboard, drums, two male singers and one female singer. Did covers of Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, RHCP, Guns N Roses, Beatles etc etc. and their sound is incredible. The lead guitarist is incredibly skilled. They do take requests(just write them on the provided pieces of paper and pass to the bartenders/waitresses who will give to the band) but obviously they won’t know and can’t play all the songs. The female singer rocks out and would give Joplin a run for her money. Drinks are a bit pricey but arguably the best live band in HCMC and highly recommended.

Visited Metallic 2 nights ago. wow… powerful atmosphere with live performances devoted to Metal and Rock. You can listen to songs by Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, GNR, Led Zeppelin, Metallica, AC/DC, Iron Maiden etc.

Current band is Pitch Black and Tornado. Watch out for Mr Yeong, the lead guitarist solo like Ritchie Blackmore. The singer scream like Ronnie James Dio. And not forgeting the female singer, couldnt remember her name but sounded like Ian Gillan.

Sadly, I think not many people appreciate these type of heavy metal songs. The crowd is dwindling. I hope peopel who likes rock nusic pls visit this last rock frontiers of Uncle Ho’s backyard.
